With overall responsibility for traffic management, plant and safety system operations and critical incident management, the Toll-road Control Centre Operators (TCCO) play a critical role in keeping traffic in the Clem7 Tunnel in Brisbane moving.

Every day the TCCO team keep a close eye on traffic conditions, monitoring a video wall with live data and 24 CCTV screens depicting traffic conditions for each 60m segment of the tunnel.

This is all while vigilantly monitoring seven more screens covering tunnel operations, fire management, incident logs, radio broadcasts and tunnel ventilation at each of their work stations!

When an incident occurs, the team move quickly to detect, verify and coordinate the incident response, restoring traffic conditions to normal as soon as reasonably practicable.

In total, the TCCO team have managed a total of 18,000 incidents in seven years, with zero contractual KPI breaches, and a strong safety record of 2,750 days with zero lost time injury.

“The team are constantly looking for new and better ways to deliver excellence. Their focus on continuous improvement has led to two contract renewals and created overall safer conditions for our client’s customers – Brisbane motorists – which is a win-win for everyone,” says Andrew Draper, Operation and Maintenance Manager.
