In early 2017, Tropical Cyclone Debbie devastated parts of Queensland and the Northern Rivers of New South Wales, Australia. Heavy winds and torrential rain caused damage to the nbn network infrastructure, leaving tens of thousands of customers without vital connectivity.

Visionstream quickly rose to the challenge, working closely with our client, nbn, to restore the network and bring peace of mind to stressed communities.

Day-to-day works were put on hold while teams were mobilised from all over Queensland.

Recovery efforts were coordinated from a 24 hour, centralised ‘war room’, with specialist crews deployed to complete temporary repairs, and field-based teams deployed to provide vital asset damage assessments. The restoration of services often took place in very difficult conditions, navigating safely around flood areas and power outages. Safety was always front of mind and access was only granted when approved by the local emergency services and authorities.

In addition to demonstrating our purpose of making infrastructure work for the community, this is an excellent example of a team working under pressure to support each other to achieve a common goal – providing our clients and their customers with excellence in service delivery.
