Everybody deserves to get home safely, so our enterprising South East Queensland Transport team on the Ventia Boral Amey Joint Venture developed a roadwork signage and speed limit awareness campaign with a compelling animation aimed at young, soon to be, drivers.

The group identified early education as a key driver of change in influencing road user behaviour around roadworks, with a focus on the next generation of drivers who are statistically more likely to be in an accident.

A team of six from all walks of the business devised a clever, educational and engaging campaign underpinned by the simple message: “How you drive keeps us alive.”

A unique element of the campaign included a simple animation where a lawyer’s desk is moved from an office environment to an emergency lane beside a busy highway. This was followed by the question: “Imagine if your loved one had to work in these conditions?” The animation’s message is clear, impactful, and a testament to the team’s enterprising nature and ability to harness technology to keep our communities safe.

To date, the educational campaign has been rolled out to three schools, with 11 more schools scheduled to receive the multi-media presentation which includes data, live footage, roadworker real life experiences and carefully crafted content developed by the team.

“This campaign benefits our roadworkers, the community and our clients in the longterm, as we continue to educate young drivers, improve behaviours and ultimately reduce incidents,” says Community Relations Advisor Lisa Townley.
