We are committed to giving back to the communities in which we operate.

Through the Ventia Awards, we acknowledged the achievements of our Most Outstanding teams and individuals by making a combined donation of $10,000 to local charities of their choice.

And thanks to everyone to everyone who voted: Beyond Blue has been selected as the 2018 Ventia Awards People’s Choice Charity.

Find out more about the charities selected below.

1) Orange Sky

Why they were selected: “This charity is close to the team’s heart as one of our family members has recently been diagnosed with brain cancer. With more than 1,600 people in our region diagnosed with brain cancer each year, there is always a chance that our team and the wider Ventia team will be impacted,” says Nicholas Franklin on behalf of the team.

5) Cathy Freeman Foundation

Selected by Dr John Hunt (Most Outstanding Our Brand Award Being Known for Our Talented and Engaged People)

The vision of the Cathy Freeman Foundation is simple but ambitious: An Australia where Indigenous and non-Indigenous children have the same education standards and opportunities in life. The foundation’s programs broaden horizons and supports Indigenous students to experience their full potential in school.

Why they were selected: “The foundation supports around 1600 indigenous students and families from remote communities in QLD and NT to improve school attendance and educational outcomes. The work they are doing aligns with Ventia’s approach to supporting aboriginal participation on our remote area projects to achieve more sustainable outcomes for their communities,” says Dr Hunt.

6) Mates in Construction

Selected by both the Ventia Boral Amey Joint Venture team (Most Outstanding Our Values Award Be Enterprising) and Barangaroo Remediation team (Most Outstanding Brand Award Bringing Technology to Deliver New and Innovative Ways of Working)

MATES in Construction was formed to reduce the high level of suicide among construction workers.  The MATES in Construction program is based on the simple idea that “suicide is everyone’s business” and that if the building and construction industry is to improve the mental health and wellbeing of workers and to reduce suicide then it cannot be left to the mental health professionals, but rather everyone in the industry must play their part.

Why they were selected: “Suicide claims too many in our industry. As a team we have seen first-hand the great work Mates in Construction do by coming on site to raise awareness through training and enabling our team to identify the signs if a colleague might need extra support,” says Ben Ready on behalf of the team.

“The stats for suicide among construction workers are astounding; 210 per year – close to one every working day. With a project team of around 100 I think it’s pretty likely that we will know someone who is going through something that could lead to thoughts about them ending their life. We need to initiate a cultural change and ensure the support is available – and ongoing education costs money. Supporting MIC allows us to give something back to the industry,” says Barangaroo Project team manager Adam Fletcher.

7) Salvation Army

Selected by the Visionstream Wideband team (Most Outstanding Our Brand Award Providing Our Clients and Their Customers with Excellence in Service Delivery)

The Salvation Army provides support in many ways to individuals and communities in need. Services range from helping put food on the table and gifts under the tree for families in crisis at Christmas to supporting after-school programs in disadvantaged communities.

The charity’s aims also which resonates with Ventia’s PURPOSE, VALUES and BRAND,” says Alexandra Floca Contracts Manager and member of the award-winning team.
