Each year, we report Ventia’s performance on gender diversity to the Australian Government’s Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA). Our 2018-19 report is now available.

We’re passionate about attracting the best and brightest people – and building a culture where all our people can learn and grow. To achieve that aspiration, it’s important that we create an environment where all our people can flourish. The WGEA report shows us where we are today and where we need to improve.

In 2018-19, women made up 23% of our workforce and 16% of manager roles, and women are making valuable contributions to our success right across the business (as you can read about here).

At the same time, we know we have more to do to help more women join Ventia and advance their career here.

We’re on a journey and the past 12 months have seen an important step forward with the creation of the Ventia Diversity Council – and Gender Diversity Working Group – to drive progress on gender diversity measures.

We’ve moved ahead with initiatives including better gender diversity metrics to monitor progress, focus groups to better understand the needs and perspectives of women at Ventia, and unconscious bias training for managers. We also continue to reinforce our policies on bullying and harassment, which are part of ensuring Ventia remains a positive, inclusive work environment for all our people.

These initiatives – as well as responses to the recent Have Your Say survey – are the building blocks for efforts in 2019 and beyond.
